Of ‘Poribortan’ and regionalism!!

PORIBORTAN; Mamta ‘Didi’ Banerjee had promised it for West Bengal, err… Paschimbanga before being literally ‘crowned’ the Chief Minister of the state and yes, she has brought the first Poribortan to her state! (pun intended)

Still didn’t get it? It’s the name of the state! It took me 2 seconds just to figure out how it is pronounced, and the funny part is the logic behind coming up with this name! As per the statement given by the WB Government, due to historical and administrative reasons they wanted to rename the state. After lot of discussion they found that it was better to have a name which is closer to the alphabet ‘A’. Further they stated that they may not be very closer to ‘A’ but they have upgraded themselves from ‘W’ to ‘P’ which is much closer to ‘A’! I mean SERIOUSLY, this was the logic they could come up to state in a press meet?? This decision was taken in Political unanimity, it only clarifies that WB politicians are a bunch of idiots and brain-less creatures. I was under the impression that Mamta Banerjee was a woman of practical approach and I was indeed happy for WB that it got a fine Chief minister after that tyrant and regionalist mind-set fellow, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya!. How could she bow down and accept such an ridiculous proposal? To any sensible person having certain amount of grey matter in his brain (politicians included) there can not be any realistic name of WB other than BENGAL or BANGA (if they want a more ‘regionalist’ name) with no prefix or suffix. Also it is more closer to the alphabet ‘A’! Smile with tongue out
And ‘Paschim’Banga!? Paschim of what? How long it has been when Bangladesh was called East Bengal? Even before it got the name East Pakistan and it is definitely more than 60 years ago. Who stopped them to change the name then? And take the example of Punjab, it got partitioned into two parts and still the Punjab of both India and Pakistan is referred to as just Punjab without any directional prefixes. So if they had to change the name even to add a Bengali flavor in its pronunciation, they could’ve dropped the word ‘Paschim’ which is irrelevant and redundant!

What is the use of changing the name? Rather try to change the attitude of people from lethargic to working and bring Multinational companies to the state, didn’t she learn anything from the Singur incident which lost Tata Motor’s plant to Gujarat? Moreover there are so many important issues that need to be addressed in WB, from healthcare to education to industrialization to union problem; everything is in a mess there. And being in midst of all of this, changing the name of the state? I guess she feels this is of prime importance for her now, a part of that promised poribortan bullshit! See the neighboring state Bihar. Nitish Kumar is busy on development and not wasting his time on renaming it to Nalanda or some crap like that. And not to mention the expenses galore with this decision!

In general what’s the enmity of Indian politicians with classy and English names? They still seem to harbor hatred towards the Britons. They have turned Calcutta to Kolkata, Bangalore to Bengaluru, Bombay to Mumbai, Cochin to Kochi, Madras to Chennai and also they are ‘de-islamicising’ Ahmedabad to more regional Amdavad, (the municipal corporation has even started using this new name everywhere). My advise to all right thinking Indians is that when politicians forcibly change a name to something ‘foolish’ lets treat that as an error and keep calling it by the old name or any other name that was meant to be like in present case just ‘Bengal’. I for one still call these cities by their old names.

To me the people with Regional mind-set seem sick, they are bloody fools standing in the way of the country’s progress! Be it Bombay’s Thackeray brothers and Shiv Sena or Bangalore’s Sri Ram Sene and this group I have come to know about lately named ‘Karnata Rakshana Vedike’, these people are opposing the idea of democracy in the country and for me they are more big a problem than terrorism for terrorists strike occasionally but these a**holes spread internal hatred towards the people of their own country based on the community and region every single day. And not just that, in Bombay there have even been physical attacks on North Indians and it was all sparked by who else but the Thackeray kin. Not just in their own state but their mentality is to divide the nation on the basis of language into various parts, recently when this a**clown Raj Thackeray was in Gujarat, he made a statement that in Gujarat only Gujaratis should be given jobs just as in Maharashtra (he wishes) Marathis should be given employment. Such people are as sane as the BJP is secular. Well I don’t want to waste my blog space by writing about these pain in the a** retards so I am stopping here.

Before ending just give it a thought, What would the Royal bengal Tiger be called now? ‘PaschimBanga Sher’!! Open-mouthed smile
And yes, this is out of context but here I would like to post the video of this arabic song I love by Cheb Khaled and no points for guessing… its called ‘Didi’!!

  1. Another one! I Dnt want to even go to the content part here, but if at all you want people to take you seriously, please use a better language and a more serious tone. The way you went all against delhi-belly for their foul language, i think its time to even clean up your own posts (If at all you have issues with the slang language per say and if these blogs are meant for a larger audience and are not just a dump-yard of your thoughts)

  2. If the comment had anything related to the content then I would have argued…
Also I have discussed it with you before that if I am writing for a mass audience I would mellow down my tone just as the article I wrote for an e-mag (which you will see as my next post)
And also the explicit language I have used here, I feel that the class of people for which I have used it deserve words like this…
